Senate Votes to Begin Immigration Debate

On Tuesday, the Senate voted 82-15 to allow S. 744, the Senate Gang of 8's bipartisan immigration bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for many of the country's 11 million undocumented immigrants, to be debated by the full Senate. Amendments are expected to be filed and debated over the next few weeks, with the Senate hoping to vote on a final bill before the July 4th recess. The bill, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for many of the country's 11 million undocumented immigrants, will be debated by the full Senate in June. The House of Representatives is working on their own immigration legislation, but no comprehensive bill has been introduced. 2012 International Religious Freedom Report Released

On Monday, the State Department released its 2012 International Religious Freedom Report. The report "highlights stories of courage and conviction, but also recounts violence, restriction, and abuse, reminding us that while many nations uphold respect and protect religious freedom, many do not."
